Aunt Emmie

Hi-

I'm home again and I'm so glad I went.  It was great to talk to Emmie so often and at length but it was really hard to leave on the last day knowing that I wouldn't see her again.
I have her address and I know she'd love to hear from any of you.  The facility has a phone but there are no phones in the rooms and Emmie doesn't have a cell phone so sending a card would be a winner.  The address is:

Henry Ford Hospice
Lakeland Nursing Center

Aunt Emmie

Yesterday they put Emmie in a hospice center.  I went to see her yesterday and was happy to see that it was very clean, everyone I met was totally nice & helpful, and Emmie was comfortable.  She looks pale and weak but she is still happy to have an animated conversation.  She told me, "It's so peaceful here."  I know what she means.  She could stay in bed at home and be taken care of but she could still see the laundry that needed doing/putting away, the dirty dishes, piles that needed dealing with, etc. and she had a lifetime of knowing that was her job so it was frustrating.  Now her room is clean and restful, the bed is comfortable, she has a pretty plant, and anyone can visit any time.  I'm so glad she can rest.  The doctor told her she had between a week and a month.  Bryce, Josie, and I went to see her Wednesday and Bryce and I are going back this afternoon.  I don't know if she has a phone # there but I'll check today.

More news

Here's a bit more news.

Sylvia (Jill's Mom) is in a rehab facility working on regaining speech and movement.  Progress is slow but there is hope so please pray that she will improve.

Last night Terran graduated from Silver State High School.  He looked so cool in his blue robe and mortarboard and everyone is proud to the max.  He has a part-time job as a cashier at a Carson City Staples with the promise of being trained as a computer tech.  He plans to work part time and take classes at the community college in the fall, either in Reno and live with Chip if he can get transferred to a Reno Staples, or at the Carson community college if the transfer doesn't work.  Way to go, Ter-Bear, you're on your way!

Thanks,

A funny story from Dad

Hi again-

Dad told me this story last night and I thought it was funny:

Dad discovered a spot on his shoulder that he thought should be removed.  He asked someone about a hospital and was told to tell a taxi driver, "Paddetai nung" (hospital one).  He said that to a taxi driver who replied, "It's nunnnng.  You must pull it out through your nose, nunnnng."

Donner cabin not ready yet...too much snow!

I thought I'd gather what help I could and go set up Donner, but Peter and Grace went up there and said not only was the yard snowed in but you have to climb over an 8-foot snow berm to get into it!  So when Sarah W. called and said she and Forrest have a week off and would like to visit Donner, it was tough luck.  They are predicting more snow up there as well.  It's better by far than tornadoes but I'm sure tired of snow and ready for summer.

Dad's birthday & tornado in Joplin

Hi-

Dad's birthday party was great.  He chose a menu of plain sweet potatoes, roast beef, and fish.  I offered to make salmon but he wanted to pick and came home with tilapia.  We can make that any time since when I seasoned and baked it, it had no fishy odor at all.  Three cheers!  We ate almost all of 4 pkg. of broccoli, most of the rolls, and half a chocolate cake.  Jenny made tapioca for Dad and we ate all of that, too.  I'll have to make him some more.
Now that he's 75 he's referring to himself as an old man and told all the kids they can call him Grandpa.  He's still a long way from being bent over and needing a cane though.

#2-

I talked to John, who said the tornado in Joplin was about 3 hr. south of them.  It wrecked one side of a large Joplin hospital and many pediatric patients were sent to the Children's Hospital in Kansas City, where John usually works.  When it filled up, patients went to the Truman Medical Center in downtown Kansas City where Tim trained and where John is now plenty busy.

Those of us lucky enough to live here had a good pizza party time with Dan, Jill, Natalie, and Lacey yesterday.  I am sorry they were here for such a sad occasion but it was still great to see and talk to them.  I love seeing the cousins talk, play, and just enjoy each other's company.  Please pray that Jill's family gets a winner of a care facility for her Mom, and that Sylvia continues to make more recovery, especially that she could swallow.

Mary has seen a chronic fatigue specialist twice.  He said she had the classic case and that he could and would treat her but it requires that her job gives her a 1-year leave of absence.  Please pray that they agree so she will still have insurance to afford the treatment.

     I love you all.   XOXOX

Aunt Joan

It was great to hear from Aunt Joan and I'd like to hear more and to know your e-mail address.  What are you doing these days?  How are Zona and April?

Thanks Everyone!

Thanks to all of you for making it such a lovely Mother's Day. It was great to hear from Susan and I'd like to hear more. I used the IHOP gift card to go to dinner Sunday evening with Mary & Chip and before that I had a most yummy lunch at Jenny's. I went out to lunch Monday with Peter & Grace. Great season, this. By the way, anything good or smart that I ever did you can thank Jesus for. He's my inspiration and my strength.
